The Food Bank of Alaska is a local organization that helps provide healthy meals for families in need throughout our state. Since 1979, they have been securing donated food for nonprofit agencies to distribute to hungry Alaskans. By donating to the Food Bank of Alaska, you’ll help positively impact the fight against hunger right here in our state!
In October, Credit Union 1 is raising funds for the Alaska AIDS Assistance Association (Four A’s) and their efforts to support and empower people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. This association is also working toward the elimination of HIV infection and its stigma in all Alaskan communities. Four A’s currently provides services such as subsidized housing and medical care information, which allows ill Alaskans to pursue employment and vastly improve their circumstances!
Did you know that there are more than 100,000 children living in poverty in Alaska who own zero books? Together, we can change that statistic and improve the future for Alaskan youth!
Thanks for stopping by the CU1 Blog! We’re pretty enamored with Alaskans at Credit Union 1, which is why you’ll find us sharing loads of fun and informative info on our blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and more. If you don’t already follow us on those venues, take a moment today and join the conversation! You can even send us questions and comments via social media, as another helpful way to keep in touch with CU1.
Help make miracles!
This June, Credit Union 1 is raising funds for sick and injured children throughout Alaska. Help us show support for the Children’s Hospital at Providence and their efforts to make miracles happen! This local facility offers a family-centered care model that provides the highest quality health service in a family-friendly environment to reduce stress and involve parents in every step of care.
In May, Credit Union 1 is excited to host a month-long fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska. This local, youth-focused organization provides children who are facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. By donating to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska, you’ll help make a positive, long-lasting impact on an Alaskan child’s life!
April is Youth Month at Credit Union 1
It’s National Credit Union Youth Month, and CU1 is excited to host a special celebration for our littlest members! In each of our statewide branches, children will find coloring sheets and goodies to grab, a special teller station just for kids, and employees on hand to help your child open their very first savings account.
As spring blossoms in Alaska, so do the many opportunities to get out into the community! We volunteered 686 hours in April which pays the salary of 4 full time development staff for a month. This is a great reminder that often time is more valuable than money!
The beginning of the New Year was very busy for CU1! We volunteered 551 hours which equals about five months of a development officer’s salary for most of our nonprofit partners in Alaska! Perhaps the most exciting and popular volunteer opportunity was the Alaska SeaLife Center Marine Gala on February 13th. Nine of us were responsible for checking guests in, collecting valuable donor information and checking guests out. While this is a lot of responsibility and trust, we were so excited to do it! We even got to dress up in formal suits and nice dresses, fancy!
